The eastern side of Sugarloaf referred to as the Costão, allows for an enchanting hike up to the top of the mountain, providing you with spectacular views of the sea, forest, and mountain, as well as the lovely city of Niterói, all in one place.
After enjoying the views at the top of the mountain, we will come down by cable car, which is also included in the price. The cable car will take us to Morro da Urca, the smaller mountain next to Sugar Loaf. From there, we will walk down the trail to get back to the Claudio Coutinho path.

On the western zone of Rio de Janeiro an imposing plateau of rock called Pedra da Gávea(The Gávea Stone). It is the largest monolith in South America, as well as the highest coastal monolith in the world and is perfect for an adventurous hike.

According to some local legends the Pedra da Gávea is a visiting place for extra-terrestrials as well as being a portal to other dimensions. The trail begins in Barra da Tijuca and passes through the Atlantic Rain Forest.

Hikers will need to keep their eyes peeled for small mammals and birds which inhabit the tree tops. The trail culminates at the summit of Pedra da Gávea, 844 meters above sea level, with the best views in Rio de Janeiro.

From the top of Pedra da Gávea there are breath taking views of all of Rio's beaches, lagoons, Sugar Loaf and overlooking Christ the Redeemer in the distance.

The Pedra da Gavea (Gavea Stone) tour is one of the most startling and rewarding of all hiking tours in Rio de Janeiro. The summit stands at 842m / 2763ft above sea level. 
The ascent takes around two and a half hours and, but it is only near the top that the adrenaline begins. Despite a steep but short hand-climbing (15m / 49ft) there is nothing to fear in Pedra da Gávea hiking tour. It's all perfectly safe using the climb equipments and requires no experience. 
From up there, the view of Tijuca Forest and all the city is wonderful and we can see Rio's most famous landmarks. 
On our way down, we will do rappel on the section that we climb the rock.

* Important: Close to the top, there is a short rocky section where we use safety equipment, very easy, quick, totally safe and perfect for beginners (no previous climbing experience is required).

It's hard about 2-3 hours hike but certainly it will be awesome. The tour is an adventure since the beginning, hiking into the Tijuca Forest and experiencing its wild life.

There´s only a small easy climbing section that you climb with a guide & all safety equipment. At the top you can get the best view of all the beaches of south and west zones, the main mountains, and if you lucky you can see base jumpers and wing suits crossing the sky to land on the beach!
