Miramare Castle and the park

Vestige of the Austrian Empire, Miramare Castle is enchantingly located on the Grignano promontory facing the Trieste Gulf on the Adriatic Sea, about 8 km / 5 miles northwest of the most north-easterly city of Italy, Trieste. The Austrian emperor Maximilian of Habsburg (Austrian archduke, and later Emperor of Mexico) commissioned the Viennese architect Carl Junker to build the residential palace between 1856 and 1860, and the castle preserves to this day the furniture and original decorations of the era.

Miramare is surrounded by a sea shore park of 22 hectares / 54 acres, characterized by an impressive variety of plants, many of which were specially chosen by the archduke during his travels around the world as admiral of the Austrian Military Marine.

The palazzo of Baron Pasquale Revoltella - an important personality of the city. The banker promoted the economic and cultural development of Trieste in the 19th century and was instrumental in financing the Suez Canal. He bequeathed his entire fortune to the city of Trieste. His palace in the city center was considered a competitor to the Miramare Castle during his lifetime and after his death it became a museum in which his private apartments can be visited on the one hand - and next door the gallery for modern art he founded. I would be happy to show you around the rooms of the magnificent apartment of Baron Revoltella - and then you have the opportunity to visit one of the most important galleries in Italy individually. Museum of Revolta

The name of the castle translates as "looking into the sea." Snow- White, against the background of the turquoise sea and blue sky, amazes with its beauty. Miramare Castle was built in the 19th century. Once here, you can understand why the Austrian Archduke Maximilian chose this place to build a residence for himself and his wife Charlotte. Maximilian, who brought exotic plants from distant countries, created an amazing collection in his park. The park is a completely man-made creation. At the beginning of construction, the castle was surrounded only by almost bare hills, overgrown with bushes. Previously, Miramare Park was also decorated with Egyptian exhibits, one of which, the Sphinx, was preserved near the pier. During the tour, you will hear the romantic and tragic story of Maximilian & Charlotte and you will see and hear about Miramare architectural buildings, plants, ponds, and fountains. At the end of the excursion, I will tell you about the delightful stuff inside the castle.

Cividale, the first Duchy of the Lombards in Italy

We will discover Cividale, a UNESCO site since 2011 for its Lombard treasures, of which the Longobard Temple is the most famous. It was the first Duchy of the Lombards on Italian soil from the sixth to the end of the eighth century. A walk through the alleys will take you back to the past.

The town has always been a meeting point for cultures and peoples: from the Celts to the Romans, from the Carolingians to the Patriarchate of Aquileia. There are countless artistic beauties and monuments of art such as the Cathedral where every Epiphany the evocative rite of the Mass of the Spadone takes place, the Monastery of Santa Maria in Valle with at its center the already mentioned incredible Lombard Temple artfully preserved.
