Their origin goes back to the first Islamic conquests, when these horses were essential in the battles to spread Islam. The Prophet Mohammed himself used these sturdy and enduring horses, contributing to their reputation as exceptional mounts.
These horses have their roots in the Arabian Peninsula, specifically in the regions of present-day Saudi Arabia, ancient Iraq and Egypt. During the Islamic expansions, these elite horses were introduced into North Africa, eventually reaching Morocco. Their lineage has been carefully preserved over the centuries, with particular attention to genetic purity, making the Arabian Thoroughbred Asil one of the most prestigious lineages in the world.
